< Nep boeken te koop [2]
Het geval van Philip M. Parker en Printing on demand deed mij zoeken naar andere boeken die (nog) niet bestaan.
En die zijn er. Ik zocht op boeken over mijn familienaam. En zo kwam ik op het boek The Geritz name in history. Wow! Dat is fantastisch! En zie je die foto's van verre familieleden die begin 20 eeuw zo te zien naar Amerika zijn afgereisd?
Nep dus. Net als The Johnsson name in history, The Miller name in history, The Campbell name in history, The Carter name in history... etc. etc.
Toch vliegen er mensen in. K Bartly: "The price charged for this book is way too much for the actual family information provided which is sparse and obscure statistical data. I was disappointed and embarrassed because I bought several for christmas presents".
Zoals al een beetje blijkt uit deze teleurgestelde reactie worden de boeken automatisch samengesteld uit allerlei vrij toegangeklijke statistieken. En met name die van Ancestry.com, uitgever van de boeken: "The (...) Name in History is a customized book offering a unique blend of fascinating facts, statistics and commentary about the (...) name. The book is just one of an entire series of family name books in the Our Name in History collection. Each book in the collection is printed on demand and is compiled from hundreds of millions of records from the world's largest online resource of family history, Ancestry.com".
